In the August Youth Parliament session Somerset Members of Youth Parliament and their deputy discussed the tragic events of Southport, the resulting violence that spread across the country, their campaigns and recruitment. Members of Youth Parliament Emma Brown gives us an update on the session.
During the second week of August, Members of Youth Parliament and their deputy met up to discuss many new ideas involving their campaigns and the recent riots around Britain.
We first started by discussing our website and all of the articles that have been added to the Latest News section. Make sure to check out our articles from Members of Youth Parliament and members of the advisory group.
This meeting came in the wake of the violent protest across the country linked with immigration, following the Southport stabbing. As a group we discussed the correct usage of terminology when addressing these controversial events to prevent it escalating and drifting from the core messages.
Together we are also planning for recruitment so we can grow our advisory group! We then moved onto the Members of Youth Parliament campaigns, I updated the group on my survey which should be released to schools after our next meeting! James has focused on running a meeting soon, to raise awareness and support from our advisory group for his campaign on the environment. Ellie has just released an article on her campaign as-well and the research she is doing! This small Member of Youth Parliament meeting has helped us all discuss our campaigns and receive feedback so we can continue to adapt and improve our campaigns objective for Somerset’s youth.
