About the campaign
Being active is important for our physical and mental health, it also helps improve confidence and teamwork. But, not everyone takes part in or necessarily enjoys sport at school or college. This could be due to a lack of inclusivity or accessibility, a lack of choice or opportunity, not feeling like they are good enough or wanting it to be fun rather than competitive.
That’s why I want to find out what sport children and young people want to do, what barriers they are facing about taking part, as well as how we can make sports more accessible and inclusive.
Objectives
- I will create an anonymous student voice system online like a suggestion box where everyone can share their ideas or concerns about sport without fear or judgement, ensuring every voice is heard equally
- I will run a school/college wide survey, where students vote on the sports or activities that they want. Then I will present the results to PE staff in schools/colleges to help introduce new opportunities
- I will help organise a “Try Something New Day” focusing on fun low pressure activities to help students build confidence and enjoy sport even if they’ve never done it before
- I will campaign to the teachers to introduce at least one inclusive activity or adapted fitness session and make sure that students with additional needs or disabilities get the same access to sport as everyone else
