Each year Somerset Youth Parliament supports the Children’s Parliament competition event day for Somerset Primary schools. The event is run by the Somerset Centre for Integrated Learning (SCIL)
Sixteen schools participated this year, and each group presented a topic they’d been working on to raise awareness and make a difference in their school and community.
This year, there were creative, unique and moving presentations about wildlife, climate sustainability, internet safety, intergenerational compassion and care, and inclusive ideas to improve the culture and environment in schools.
Youth Parliament members attended the day to help out, present themselves, run a fun activity, promote the Youth Parliament elections and encourage Advisory Group membership.
Did you know you can stand for election this year IF you are by 1 March, you are 11-17 years? (Visit https://somersetyouthparliament.org.uk/elections/ to find out more)
Here’s what Noah and Ruby had to say:
Last month I went to Children’s Parliament Day. This is a great opportunity for primary aged children to present themselves and what they are doing in school to the world! This is a chance for them to shine.
For some children this can be a very hard thing to do and yet we realised that these pupils are saying the same things we are saying in Somerset Youth Parliament. As someone who went to the Children’s Parliament Day event last year, I hope we see some of these super ‘risk takers’, joining Somerset Youth Parliament soon!
Noah
I really enjoyed going to the 2025 Children’s Parliament Day. The primary schools group presentations were a joy to watch. Each pupil showed passion for wanting to make a difference!
