It you’re aged 11-18 years, live or go to school or college in Somerset, you can apply now to be one of three Somerset Members of Youth Parliament.

Standing as a Member of Youth Parliament is your chance to speak up, make change and represent what matters most to young people in Somerset.

What is Youth Parliament?

Youth Parliament is a national programme supported by Somerset Council and the National Youth Agency. It’s an apolitical, inclusive group that’s all about youth voice. Members of Youth Parliament work locally, regionally and nationally to campaign on issues that matter to young people.

Current campaigns include:

  • Young People and the Fragile Environment
  • Young People and Social Media

Members of Youth Parliament and the advisory group focus on equality, diversity and respect. They make sure the voices that are often unheard get a platform and with previous projects have tackled:

  • Mental health
  • Gender equality
  • LGBTQ+ inclusion
  • Safety
  • Education
  • Climate change
