How do I vote?

If you live or go to school or college in Somerset and are aged 11-18 years, then you are eligible to vote in the Youth Parliament Elections. You can vote for up to three of the nominees and you must provide your date of birth, postcode and the name of the school, college or club that you attend.

Members of Youth Parliament

With the support of schools, colleges and the community, Somerset will elect three Members of Youth Parliament to each run a campaign of their choice. Elected Members of Youth Parliament will also work alongside services and decision makers to ensure that they reflect young people’s experiences, opinions and priorities. This is a unique chance to represent the voice and interests of local young people across Somerset and at a national level.

Campaigns

The three elected Members of Youth Parliament will each run a campaign of their choice for two years. This could be focused on any number of topics which are of interest or concern to young people.

These may be:

  • Strengthening students councils and representation
  • Safety in schools and communities
  • The health and wellbeing of young people in Somerset
  • Improving attitudes and awareness around diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
  • LGBTQ+ young people
  • The environment and climate change
  • Improving sex education and relationship education in schools

or any other topic which aims to improve outcomes for young people to live healthy, happy and meaningful lives in our communities.

Your support

The elected Members of Youth Parliament will work alongside services and adult decision makers to reflect young people’s experiences, opinions and priorities. They will represent all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences on the issues and topics that are important to them.
