This month we were delighted to introduce a few new faces to Youth Parliament’s Advisory Group. Let’s learn a little more about Rafath.
Hello, my name is Rafath, and I am a young boy from Somerset with a passion for making a difference in our county and local community. As a proud resident of Somerset, I’ve always been inspired by the potential of our youth to shape the future. It is this belief that has driven me to join Somerset Youth Parliament’s Advisory Group, where I plan to channel my energy and ideas into creating meaningful change.
A Bit About Me
I’m currently a student with a deep interest in the world around me. Whether it’s through academics, sports, or community activities, I’m constantly seeking ways to learn and grow. In the future, I aspire to pursue a career that allows me to make a lasting impact on society. My passions include advocating for public welfare, creating inclusive opportunities for young people, and ensuring that everyone in our county feels valued and heard. Why Youth Parliament Matters
Youth Parliament is a fantastic opportunity for young people to voice their opinions and be part of decision-making processes that shape their lives. It’s not just about raising concerns but also about collaborating with others to find solutions. I believe that young people’s priorities must be taken seriously, as they are the foundation of a brighter future for Somerset. This platform allows us to address key issues, bring fresh perspectives, and work towards sustainable change. My Vision for Somerset
As a member of the Somerset Youth Parliament Advisory Group, I intend to focus on areas that I believe are pivotal for our community. Here are some of the key issues I plan to address:
- Making Public Transport More Accessible and Attractive – Public transport is a vital service that connects people, yet it remains underutilized by My aim is to work on initiatives that improve its accessibility, affordability, and reliability. Whether it’s better timetables, safer stops, or eco-friendly options, I want to make public transport the go-to choice for everyone.
- Expanding Opportunities in Sports for Young People – Sports have the power to unite communities and build confidence in young people. I’d like to collaborate with local organizations to create more sports programs, accessible facilities, and events that inspire young people to participate and excel.
- Addressing the Hinkley Point C Issue and Community Safety – The ongoing developments at Hinkley Point C have raised concerns about community safety and environmental impact. I want to engage with experts, authorities, and residents to ensure that the interests of our community are safeguarded, and transparency is maintained.
- Promoting Youth-Led Initiatives – I believe in empowering young people to lead projects that matter to Whether it’s climate action, mental health awareness, or educational reform, I’ll work to provide platforms where their voices can thrive.
Inspiring Change Together
My journey in Youth Parliament is driven by a desire to serve as a bridge between decision-makers and the youth of Somerset. Together, we can tackle challenges, celebrate our achievements, and pave the way for a future where every young person feels empowered to make a difference. I look forward to collaborating with like-minded individuals, working tirelessly to turn ideas into actions, and ensuring that Somerset continues to be a place where dreams are nurtured and communities flourish.Rafath
