The Youth Parliament Advisory Group meets on the first Sunday of each month, where members discuss a variety of topics and take part in activities. The September meeting had a packed agenda, with topics ranging from the Youth Parliament Election and Black History Month. In this article member of the Advisory Group, Lara, gives us the lowdown of what happened during the meeting.

Today’s meeting has me really excited for the future of Youth Parliament. There were so many enthusiastic young people, making really interesting points, along with some great debating skills. I’m looking forward to seeing the action the group takes moving into the elections and the New Year.

We had debates over not only priority issues for young people – but also interesting topics. We also started planning how we’re moving forward into the election season, and beyond as well as discussing the value of education around Black History Month in October, and how it could/ should be improved.

In the coming months we’re also looking to do more training, and upskilling after the elections, in early 2026 – which is vital to our group and will help the new Advisory group members as well as the newly elected Members of Youth Parliament greatly.

We’ve already got people nominating themselves for elections, which is amazing, and so many ideas for campaigns, so a great 2026 ahead of us!
