Luca is one of our Somerset Members of Youth Parliament (MYP), who is working hard on his campaign ‘Your Opinion Matters’ where he’s addressing misinformation and disinformation in the news. Here’s his update for the past month.

Hello everyone! I apologise for not giving an update for a while, but I’ve still been at work as a Somerset MYP! Here are the two main actions I have completed towards my campaign:

Meeting with Gideon Amos MP

As I am a constituent of his, I felt it would be a great opportunity to meet him to discuss what we can do to tackle issues for young people across Somerset, not from a political perspective but from unity. This is a brief update, so I won’t go into detail, but it went well and I’m hoping to work with him and other representatives more closely.

Results of News Sources Survey

I have created a results presentation for news sources survey, which can be found here. It’s been a slow start in terms of responses and although numbers are disappointing, I’ll be relaunching it in September when everyone’s back at school and college. As a representative I’ll be working with my own school, seeking teacher support and promoting it in Courtfields. However, it would be great if I could get some traction in other schools as well so hopefully Youth Parliament members will be able to help as well. The link to the survey can be found here.
