It’s that time of the year, where preparation for exams is ramping up. Member of the Youth Parliament Advisory Group, Grace has some wise words of advice on how important it is to protect your mental health during this time.
Negative mental health is a very prominent issue among young people today and is particularly fuelled by academic pressures. Exams such as GCSE’s and A levels put pressure on young people to perform exceptionally well and overwork themselves, often at the expense of their mental health. There is a direct correlation between negative mental health and negative physical health, with issues such as panic attacks arising. While these exams are important, it is important to remember that they are not the be all and end all, and putting your mental health first is the priority.
Take regular breaks from revising, and planning a revision schedule can be useful tools to put things into perspective and help you feel organised. Feeling organised will put you in a better mental space, and help young people to take care of themselves properly
You are more important than any test results, and we all need to remind ourselves of this!
