Ellie Bealing is one of our three Somerset Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) that represent the young people of Somerset on a local and national stage. They campaign on the issues that are important to you and amplify your voice. In this article Ellie, gives us the rundown of what it’s like to be an MYP.

My role as a MYP, can seem a little daunting at first as the grand ideas must somehow be broken down into small, achievable actions. Yet I’ve come to realise that it’s a marathon and not a sprint, and each connection or process adds up to have a bigger impact than we realise.

There’s a real sense of achievement from being able to have an effect on other young people, even if it seems like it’s behind the scenes. I look forward to those opportunities to represent the work of Somerset Youth Parliament, we should all be incredibly proud of it. Not only do MYPs have the ability to directly help young people, but I’m grateful for the Advisory Group in their role as supporters, and innovators to help drive my campaign. Their presence retains the key ethos of Youth Parliament, which is to strive to represent all young people in our county, a take I think we’ve evidenced time and time again.
