The oldest known poem dates back 4,000 years and is one of the oldest forms of artistic expression. On this National Poetry Day, members of the Somerset Youth Parliament Advisory Group, Ruby and Noah share their thoughts on poetry.
Poetry is a way to express emotions in the form of beautiful literature. Each line poses a type of understanding; conversations just cannot touch. Over many decades poetry has continued to retain power strong enough to bring people to tears. Thursday 2 October is the UK’s National Poetry Day. Maybe you should try to pour your heart onto a page this October to see the magic of words for yourself.

National Poetry Day is a great chance for people to discover a love for poetry. Poetry can connect us and bring us together. It can also educate people or make them feel safe and comfortable. Poetry is great at helping people to find joy!
