One of the Somerset Youth Parliament Advisory Group’s youngest members, Ruby, has written a great article on the importance of reading. Why not give it a read?

Reading is a very important part of childhoods. Reading for just 20 minutes per day can hugely improve a child’s vocabulary and understanding of words from an early age. Not only does reading support the growth of word understanding and knowledge, it also supports imaginative development.

Each story shows the reader that, even if it isn’t real in reality, anything can be real in the pages of a good book. As children develop, stories change from a story before bed to a mindful break from the stress of the real world. In modern times, technology, social media and TVs have taken over. Reading is an amazing substitute.
