By the end of July 2026 we have had three heatwaves in Somerset, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. It can be really difficult to cope and cool down. Noah, member of the Somerset Youth Parliament Advisory Group has got you covered with his article.
As the summer holiday begins, lots of young people will be quite happy to leave their hot classrooms. However, the heat is still continuing. At our last Youth Parliament meeting, we talked about the difficulties that young people face in the heat. Young people are more vulnerable to heat.
Some things you can do are: stay hydrated – but drink other drinks and water, put a cold towel around your neck and manage when you have certain windows open. Stay safe in the heat!

Coping in a heatwave
It can be really difficult to cope in the hot weather, we can feel uncomfortable or fatigued, but it can also lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke or other health conditions.
The NHS has kindly put together a guide with some guidance for coping in hot weather.
