There’s nothing quite like going to watch a movie at the cinema, the smell of the popcorn, the cheers and laughter of the audience, the ridiculously oversized soft drinks and the escape into another world. In this article Eva, Somerset Member of Youth Parliament, shares her thoughts on National Cinema Day.
As a member of Somerset Youth Parliament and a MYP representing Somerset, I think it’s important that young people have access to affordable activities. That’s why I think National Cinema Day is such a great idea.
On the Monday 31 August participating cinemas across the UK will be offering discounted tickets starting from £4. Which gives more people the chance to enjoy a film on the big screen in their local area.
For me going to the cinema is much more than just watching a film. It’s a chance to spend time with friends and family and to relax and enjoy a shared experience.
I hope lots of young people across Somerset and the whole of the UK take advantage of this opportunity and support their local cinema.

You can find cinema chains in towns across the county, and some are lucky enough to have independent cinemas. Cinemas have been facing challenges since Covid and the rise of streaming, so it’s important to support cinema.
