Sleep is vital for resting our brains and bodies, preparing us for the day ahead, but there’s so much more to it than that. In this article Bea, member of the Somerset Youth advisory group, gives us a low down on the impact of a good night’s sleep and gives us a few tips on how we can get better sleep.

We all know that when we have enough sleep, we often wake up feeling rested and ready to go about our day. But do you know how many brilliant effects getting enough sleep does for your body? A few are, that a good night’s sleep can produce a faster immune response, reduced risk of conditions like heart disease and better memory and focus. Sleep is vital for your body’s general health and wellbeing but it’s not always easy to get to sleep or to know how much sleep you should be getting.

A few tips for better sleep:

  • Avoid screens before bed and try not to have them in your room
  • Keep a strict routine before bed
  • Avoid caffeine or sugary drinks and perhaps replace it with a herbal tea

But most importantly try to not get too anxious over losing sleep because that could make it worse but if you have any concerns about lack of sleep speak to a healthcare professional.
