Speaking in public is a terrifying prospect for many, but an important skill to learn, as Daniel, member of the Somerset Youth Parliament Advisory Group explains.

Public speaking is an experience you will encounter throughout many stages of your life. This can be in school, your profession or even every day life. People often ask “what is the point of public speaking?” in this article I’m going to explain why exactly we do public speaking.

Communication skills

Public speaking helps greatly ameliorate your communication. Whether you’re attempting to present a point or an opinion there are a multitude of skills that are essential. For example, you will need to speak clearly and confidently to radiate a trustable and creditable atmosphere. This will make your point more believable and unanimously better perceived. All this can be learned through public speaking.

To build Confidence

Confidence is a necessity for everyday life and is essential for getting hired into your respective profession. For example, if you show up to an interview for something you’re completely qualified for, yet you are not acting confident enough, your interviewer may perceive you lower. A fantastic way to develop higher confidence is to speak in front of a large audience. This is because if you are confident speaking in front of a large audience you won’t be as scared of speaking to one person.

These are just two reasons out of many, so I hope this made you think. Maybe next time your teacher or peer asks to speak in front of an audience you won’t be so quick to worry or complain. Thank you for reading.
