This month member of the Somerset Youth Parliament Advisory Group Noah, talks about safe spaces in schools, what they are and the importance of them. It’s a really interesting read.

I am writing about the importance of safe spaces in schools for children and young people. It’s so important for them to feel safe to help them enjoy school. A safe place can be anywhere for example, libraries, wellbeing centres, meeting rooms, some quiet, calm personal space or just being near a trusted adult.

Safe spaces/ places may be different for everyone. I didn’t fully have this at my primary school and now that I’m at secondary school I’m aware that some children and young people still don’t have this in place in their schools but it should be across all schools and colleges. I think it needs to change.

What do our schools offer? Does it work well or could it be better?
