Fast fashion is hugely damaging ecologically and can be expensive. Luckily there are alternative options, luckily Gemma’s on the case. In her article, member of the Youth Parliament advisory group, Gemma gives us the lowdown on one of those options: Vinted.
In the June Youth Parliament meeting, we spent some time discussing the actions we take to be eco-friendly. One action that stood out to me was the increasing use of Vinted among young people. In this article I want to explain the benefits of Vinted and why more young people should use it.
Vinted is one of the most popular international online marketplaces to sell and buy second-hand clothes, books, games, and other items. Vinted’s popularity stems from the variety of factors it benefits, for example: our climate, your bank account, and your wardrobe!
With the important environmental awareness days that take place in June such as, World Environmental Day on 5 June, Vinted is an excellent example of how young people can be environmentally conscious.
Vinted are committed to make a positive impact on the environment, and in order to continuously improve they have partnered with Vaayu (a carbon tracking platform). Through this partnership some significant findings have been discovered. For instance, in 2023 by shopping second-hand on Vinted 678,691 tonnes of CO2e emissions have been avoided. This can be compared to flying between London and Los Angeles 512,414 times!
On the whole, this demonstrates how young people can use this platform in order to shop for high-quality, cheaper, and most importantly environmentally friendly fashion!
