Did you know that along with being International Women’s Day, March is also Women’s History Month? Somerset Youth Parliament wanted to share with us all a little about the most important women to them. On behalf of all of us, thank you to all of the women throughout history who have shaped our world and made it a better place.
First off all I’m going to exclude my mother from this list as I have not got her permission to use her as the ‘subject’. I would of course choose my mother usually, as she helps me out and cares for me.
Throughout his history there has been an assortment of wonderful, inspiring women. from the likes of Greta Thunberg to the brilliant minds of women such as Mary Shelley. But overall, my favourite, most inspiring woman would have to be Anne Frank. Her struggles and hardships are a great motivation to cope through difficult situations. She also helps many find a light in dark times and most importantly, she shows your voice can make a difference!
My favourite woman is my mother. She has stayed kind, patient and loving throughout life’s challenges, and all I wish is that the world treats her the same. I’m forever grateful for all the women who came before her, and wish every woman a restful belated Happy International Women’s Day that will continue through March for International Women’s Month.
I really appreciate my mum who does everything for me, my best friends Amelie and Louise, and all the female celebrities who are huge role models for young girls across the world.
I look up to and thankful for so many women in history like Emily Brontë, for her incredible literature and the impact she made, Rosa Parks, as she serves as a great inspiration in standing up to injustice and unfair racism, and Rosalind Franklin, who revealed the structure of DNA and was a pioneer for the use of X-Rays, paving the way for modern medicine as we now know it!
I really admire my mum, the female volunteers, and teachers who dedicate their time and to their communities, their children and students, I’m also pleased that there are some models who are actively challenging the stereotypes at the moment – for example, breaking expectations of size, looks in terms of the generic standards of ‘beauty’.
There are so many women in the entertainment industry out there who are positive role models and rockin it! Taylor Swift, Sabina Carpenter and Chapel Roan – they are incredible!
My History teacher is special. She so inspirational and totally amazing!!
I live with my mum who is a single parent and she’s totally amazing! She does EVERYTHING – She always there for us, and still works full time, is doing her Masters and still manages to take us out to places and have fun with us. I totally trust my mum.
My mum and my Auntie are my favourite women because they both work so hard all the time, despite their own struggles. When my mum had to work, I’d be looked after my Auntie who made sure we enjoyed spending time with her and she did so many things with us and helped us learn. All this on top of having her own children to look after, a disability and a difficult marriage. Women work so hard but people don’t always realise.
It’s SO hard to pick a favourite woman as there are so many I’m grateful to – my mum, my grandma, my nanny and the female teachers especially in my school who’ve helped me feel happier.
My twin sister is closer than any best friend could be! We’re both so different and argue sometimes, but we understand each other.
My mum and my twin sister are my absolute favourite women. My mum does so much, she works, takes me to all the activities and clubs I’m part of, does the jobs at home. It’s incredible really.
I totally love the generosity of my female teachers and for going the extra mile.
Because of strong women around me I feel less alone.
I’m so appreciative of the women around me and their understanding of emotional struggles.
As I’ve got older I’ve realised that Mums tend to cover up their sacrifice.
My Mum and Grandma are my favourite women for their continual support and generosity.
My mum is my favourite woman!
I really appreciate my mom who does everything for me, my best friends Amelie and Louise, and all the female celebrities who are huge role models for young girls across the world.
I want to celebrate my Mum! I want to celebrate her kindness, all the things she does for me, and all the sacrifices she makes. I am truly lucky to have a Mum who works so hard!
Lucy Bronze is a female footballer who plays for both England and Chelsea. I want to celebrate the work she does promoting women in all sports, and the role model she is for many young people around the world.
