Books are magical things, they can transport us into new worlds, to go on adventures and they teach us about our world. Ruby, member of the Somerset Youth Parliament advisory group, is a fan of reading and has written a great article about the wonders of World Book Day.
Did you know that 5 March is World Book Day? World book day is a chance to recognise the importance of books and stories and how they impact the development and mental health of young people.
Books are helpful tools to learn in a fun way through an engaging story or relatable characters. As you read, you develop reading, reading comprehension skills and your vocabulary grows by the page.
World Book Day is a great time to recognise the benefits of reading and schools often get involved, offering a fun day to show pupils just how amazing reading is. With support to encourage students to explore reading, more people can experience the joys reading brings.
Another reason to read is that people who read often generally have less time to doomscroll on their phones. Reading can reduce stress and generally helps mental health, an important part of life.
Happy World Book Day!
