In mid-April, our newly elected Members of Youth Parliament and the Advisory Group were given the opportunity to meet with the Chair of Somerset Council, Mike Best, a great opportunity to get the voices of children and young people heard by a decision maker. In his article, Blake gives some information about the meeting.
Last Monday I was invited by Councillor Mike Best to visit County Hall with the rest of Somerset Youth Parliament – the three elected Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) and the Advisory Group.
We three elected Somerset representatives were given the opportunity to present our manifesto and Councillor Best answered questions from members of the Youth Parliament Advisory Group.
This was a good way to start my tenure focusing on financial literacy, business and work experience, because it gave me a chance to meet the Chair of Somerset County Council. I am very grateful for this experience and look forward to any future opportunities to work with the council.
My next task is to develop a survey for local businesses.
